Courtney Vaughan is from Charleroi, a small town outside of Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating from Roanoke College with a BA in Literary Studies, she taught English abroad at the National University of Laos through Fulbright for one year. Thereafter, she decided to join the Peace Corps where she served in Armenia, teaching English as a Foreign Language at a primary school. Her time teaching abroad inspired her to learn more about school choice and the education inequity gap in the U.S. She explored these interests at the University of San Diego where she received a MA in Peace and Justice. Upon graduating, she realized she wanted to contribute to education advocacy and reform from a bottom-up approach, and is elated to have discovered Haven Academy, where she feels at home. Outside of teaching, she loves to cook/bake, read, explore the city, do powerlifting, be outdoors, travel, and spend time with her two cats, Lusin and Arev.
