Teacher – Matthew Lutz (pronounced Loots) joined the Haven Academy Elementary School team with over a decade of experience working with students in both Kindergarten and First Grade. He finds great joy in working with the youngest learners, and he is passionate about early literacy. There is something magical about watching young children develop a long-lasting love for both reading and writing. Matthew holds a B.A. in Elementary Education, M.A. in Reading & Literacy, and M.A. in Educational Leadership. In addition to serving as a Kindergarten teacher at Haven, Matthew also serves as an adjunct professor who works with undergraduate and graduate teaching candidates in the areas of children’s literature, early literacy methodologies, and math methodologies. He recently moved from Chicago to New York City. Matthew lives in Central Harlem with his husband, AJ, and their two dogs: Graham and Georgia. During his free time, Mr. Lutz enjoys spending time with family and friends while exploring this incredible city! Matthew is excited to partner with the Haven community to create an environment in which all students experience joy and feel empowered, loved, and valued.
