Empathy and Restorative Practices at the Core<\/span><\/h2>\n

At the core of the Haven Way is a focus on empathy, emotional intelligence, and restorative practices. Not only do our team members practice empathy towards their peers and students, they also model these behaviors for students as they develop their own empathy skills. Restorative practice and positive behavior systems are both strengths-based and focused on growth and skill building, rather than punitive measures that remove students from the community.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]

Restorative justice is about community and focused on people and relationships. When harm is done, someone makes a mistake, or there is conflict, restorative practice has the goal of finding a peaceful resolution and respect in the situation and ensuring everyone feels valued. Restorative practices are woven into the daily program at Haven and include Advisory for Upper School students and Social Emotional Learning Time (SELT) for Lower School students. Both include time for students to have a voice to talk through and resolve conflict in a safe space. <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) and Mental Health Services<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Haven approaches academics, behavior, and mental health using a tiered approach. This means that 100% of students receive basic support for positive behavior and mental health support such as Advisory and Social Emotional Learning Time where students focus on building the social and emotional skills that they need to be successful not only in school, but in life. For students who need interventions beyond the basic supports, the social-emotional and behavior support staff will provide small groups, or, when needed, individualized plans to ensure that the student receives 1:1 counseling or skill development specific to their needs.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_media_grid element_width=”3″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1684776734531-da53f159-fcb6-5″ include=”7821,7656,7819,7818″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n
