Upper School Principal (3-8)
Tyra has dedicated her life to working towards educational equity and excellence for underserved communities across NYC and the surrounding areas. With over 25 years of experience as an educator in urban, public schools, Tyra has served in various educational roles including elementary and middle school teacher, middle and high school assistant principal, and K-8, a middle, and high school principal for both public and charter schools.
Most recently, she served as a Senior Educational Consultant with Teaching Matters for NYCDOE middle schools. She works tirelessly, using culturally responsive sustaining practices as the foundation of her work, to close the achievement gap in urban education.
Tyra founded a charter high school in The Bronx and supported the school with a 95% graduation rate for its first senior class. She has a proven record of successfully using data to increase proficiency rates in both literacy and math for grades K-12.
She is a proud mom and a native New Yorker (and congrats to her son who just graduated college).
Tyra received her BA from SUNY Albany, her MS from Fordham University in Elementary Education and an MS in Administration and Supervision from The College of New Rochelle with an extension in Staff Development.
