Nyissia Spruill started her life in the Bronx before her family moved to North Carolina. Passionate about social justice and urban education reform, Nyissia was excited and honored to have the opportunity to return to the Bronx to teach after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Cornell University with majors in American Studies and Spanish and minors in Latin American Studies and Law and Society. Working with Teach For America, she received her MST in Childhood Education with a Bilingual Extension from Pace University and is certified to teach grades 1-6. After 11 years experience serving English Language Learners and their families in all grade levels, she graduated with a Masters in Education Leadership from Bank Street College of Education and received school building leader certification. Nyissia is excited to continue being a part of the Haven community. She enjoys learning languages (she is fluent in Spanish and working on French), long nature walks, reading and talking about topics around critical race theory, yoga (she is a registered yoga teacher – 200 hours) and is a certified professional coach that provides empowerment coaching to women during her free time.
