The Mott Haven Academy Charter School empowers children in an educational environment which addresses and reduces the barriers to academic success through the integration of family support services with a rigorous, college-preparatory academic program.
In order to meet the needs of our community, the school design includes a close partnership with one of the city’s largest social service agencies, The New York Foundling.
Haven Elementary Teacher – Rebecca was raised in Yonkers, NY – just 20 minutes north of Mott Haven. She attended the University of Connecticut , where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. During her time at UConn, Rebecca had the life-changing experience of studying abroad in Peru and teaching 1st Grade in a rural community. Rebecca also student taught in Hartford, CT where she had the opportunity to work with many Multilingual Learners. Since she was a child, Rebecca knew that she wanted to be a teacher. The experiences that she’s had over the past couple of years have deepened her passion for teaching and working with students in urban communities. In her free time, Rebecca likes to dance, bake, paint, and spend time with her family and friends.

Haven Academy opened in the Fall of 2008 and has grown to serve students in grades PreK-6.
All children eligible to attend NYC Public Schools are eligible to attend Mott Haven Academy Charter School.
Enabling teachers to be more creative and innovative in their teaching methods, length of school day and year, and subject matter.
The Foundling’s Bronx Community Services has supported the Mott Haven community for over 40 years.
Charter schools are one of the fastest growing innovations in education and are supported on the city, state and federal government level.
Our graduates will be resilient, resourceful, independent scholars who have the skills necessary to reach their full potential and to build a better future.
