Leigh Yakubowski grew up outside of Albany, NY, and has slowly made her way down the Hudson River since then. She worked in the Poughkeepsie City Schools while studying Sociology and Education at Vassar College, and then taught at a New York City-based experiential program called CITYterm for two years in Dobbs Ferry. While at CITYterm, Ms. Yakubowski got to experience project-based and transformative education first-hand, leading high-schoolers through investigative projects about – and in! – New York City, including the South Bronx! Ms. Yakubowski now strives to bring that same engaging and hands-on learning experience to younger students. Last year, she taught fifth grade in Redwood City, California, and is beyond excited to be back in her home state teaching at Haven. When Ms. Yakubowski isn’t focusing on bringing joyful and authentic education into the classroom, she is relaxing at home with her dog, spending time with family, or enjoying the great outdoors.
