Luina is an academic intervention specialist, focused on reading and early language development.
Her path toward education began while studying at Barnard College. During her time as an undergrad, she worked for America Reads, an organization whose goal is to ensure every child can read independently upon completing third grade.
After graduating from Barnard in 2006, Luina began teaching at a school in the South Bronx. She spent the next five years there, teaching kindergarten and first grade. Luina then joined the team at Haven Academy in 2011, and worked as a Kindergarten teacher for five years. During this time she pursued her graduate studies and received her Masters in Early Childhood Education from The City College of New York. She is now working out of the classroom as a Reading Recovery teacher and reading interventionist.
Luina has an unwavering commitment to helping students achieve academically, socially, and emotionally. While she is already certified as a Reading Recovery specialist, she continues to study different methods to ensure the best skill set when working with students. After more than ten years as an educator in the South Bronx, Luina is proud to continue as part of the Haven family.
